(WHBL) – Blood donations are always needed, but the American Red Cross says that donating in October is a good way to observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Red Cross notes that those being treated for cancer need more blood than any other class of patients. All blood is tested for coronavirus antibodies as well, since the convalescent plasma it contains can help people recover from COVID-19. And in appreciation for the gift of a blood donation, donors giving between October 15th and November 11th will receive a $5 Amazon.com Gift Card in their email courtesy of Suburban Propane, and become eligible for one of five $1,000 cards.
Donors of all blood types are needed, and you can make an appointment, find nearby blood drives and check terms and conditions of that gift card drawing at RedCrossBlood.org.
Locally, regular blood collection takes place at the Sheboygan Trades and Labor Hall at 11th and Wisconsin Avenue every Friday from 10 until 3, and drives are also coming up next Monday at Our Lady of the Lakes in Random Lake, on Tuesday at Faith Reformed Church in Cedar Grove, and on Thursday the 15th at the Osthoff in Elkhart Lake.
