SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – The numbers of cases due to an outbreak of COVID-19 at the Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution near Greenbush has the County Division of Public Health revising how it reports the numbers. The facility-wide investigation there is being conducted by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health, working closely with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Wisconsin Department of Corrections, and KMCI. The full accounting of KMCI cases is done by the DOC, and according to County DPH the numbers on the DOC dashboard can take some time to make it onto the County’s system, resulting in discrepancies between the two. And because the County reports new cases in each age group, the county report will only include KMCI cases as the ages of those cases are reported.
Beginning with Tuesday’s report and until the investigation at KMCI is completed, those cases will have their own separate line in the report. Those cases will NOT be counted in either the “active” or “recovered” counts. This means that the active cases, plus recovered cases, plus KMCI inmate cases, plus deaths will equal the County’s total confirmed case count numbers. This also means that some recovered cases will be deducted from the 9/29 report to account for the previous KMCI cases counted as recovered.
Of significance to those keeping count, some COVID positive KMCI employees are included in the total confirmed case count of the county in which they reside. Negative tests for KMCI inmates are reported directly to the DOC and aren’t counted by Sheboygan County DPH.
As for the numbers: 204 cases of COVID-19 have been reported at KMCI, 75 of those confirmed since Monday. 129 KMCI recoveries were reported.
113 new positive COVID-19 test returns from the general population have come back since yesterday, raising the County’s total confirmed case count to 1,799. Active cases now number 191, one less than yesterday as 39 county residents were added to the recovered column. 12 persons here are hospitalized.
10,764 Wisconsin test results came in since Monday, and 2,367 of those – or 22% – were positive. The 7-day positive average rose to 19.5%. 17 deaths were recorded in the last day, that toll now reaching 1,300. 67 more persons entered hospitals with confirmed infections of the coronavirus, raising the hospital population to a new high of 646. Of those, 205 are in the ICU. Another 208 patients are waiting for their test returns, and 382 persons are on ventilators.
