SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – Another resident of Sheboygan County – someone in their 60s -has fallen victim to the coronavirus pandemic that has how claimed 16 lives here. 135 persons in the county are now battling COVID-19, 12 of them in the hospital. 31 new cases were added since Thursday, and out of a total test pool of 696, that’s a positive test return rate of 4.45%, up from Thursday’s 3.2% rate. 26 persons recovered since Thursday within Sheboygan County. Of those so far deceased, one was in their 40s, one in their 50s, four were in their 60s, five in their 70s and five were 80 or older.
With the new cases, 351 of the 1,584 total have occurred to people in their 20s. 253 were in their 30s, 242 in their 50s, 229 were in their 40s, 179 in their teens, 163 in their 60s, 79 in their 70s, 58 in their 80s and 30 were younger than 10 years old.
Wisconsin added another 2,504 positive cases of coronavirus to the pandemic total so far – which has now reached 110,828, and the daily positive rate was 16.6% which raised the 7-day average to 16.5%. 9 more deaths raised the toll to 1,274. 65 more persons entered hospital treatment of confirmed cases of COVID-19, and of the 530 COVID-19 patients in hospitals now, 151 are in the ICU. Another 208 persons are hospitalized and awaiting test results, and 371 persons are on ventilators.
The Sheboygan County Safe Restart plan will remain in Phase-2, as it has been since the beginning of June. The only metric in the “green” is that of hospitals’ ability to treat everyone needing hospitalization without resorting to crisis standards. Testing, PPE availability and Tracing are all rated as “Proceed with Caution,” and Case Trajectory and Activity Levels are both “Of Concern,” or in the red.
The School Risk Status in Sheboygan County remains “High,” based on Epidemiology (in the red), along with Health Care and Public Health metrics (both “proceed with caution”).
Also within the daily summary from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health was the report that Ascension Wisconsin hospitals in the Fox Valley will suspend in-person visitation due to COVID-19 beginning September 28th. Those Ascension hospitals are St. Elizabeth in Appleton, Mercy in Oshkosh and Calumet in Chilton. Some exceptions will be allowed on a case-by-case basis, but aside from that, family and friends are encouraged to stay connected to hospitalized loved ones through virtual visitation such as phone or video chat and texting.
