SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – The struggle to provide students with an experience that resembles “normal” is running into realities as COVID-19 permeates school life in Wisconsin. And the best efforts in one district won’t guarantee success in another. Interscholastic sports shows that plainly, as Friday’s varsity football game between Sheboygan Falls and Kewaskum High Schools had to be cancelled. That word came from the Falls District Wednesday in a short message on its website, which added that the game would not be rescheduled.
A message to Kewaskum District families last Friday may have shed some light on the situation, as it called last week a “challenging” one with rising positive COVID-19 cases across all grades and schools in the district.
The football game between Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran and Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah at Elkhart Lake tomorrow was changed to October 19th, but other games in the Big East Conference were on as scheduled this weekend.
Soccer hasn’t fared as well, as tournament cancellations in Milwaukee and Kimberly have sidelined the Sheboygan North Boys and Girls teams this weekend.
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association, which oversees high school sport,s voted in August to go forward with the fall season amid the coronavirus pandemic.
