SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – With the passing of a Sheboygan County resident of age 80 or over due to COVID-19, the death toll since the beginning of the pandemic here is 15 as of Monday’s update from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health. 5.8% of test returns since Friday have come back positive, adding 50 to the total number of cases which now reads 1,488. 49 more persons recovered since Friday, which – along with the casualty – leaves a net zero change of 143 active cases of the coronavirus. Eleven persons in the county are now hospitalized for their battle against the disease.
One of the county residents who passed away due to COVID-19 so far was in their 40s, one in their 50s, three in their 60s, 5 in their 70s and 5 were age 80 or older.
The Sheboygan County Division of Public Health, in Monday’s daily update, published a graph that illustrates the trajectory of cases by age group from month to month. The chart clearly shows that the bulk of the case load belongs to those county residents ages 20-39 with 564. Those from 40-59 comprise 442 of the cases. Ages 60-79 account for 225 cases so far, those age 19 and under number 201, and ages 80 and older account for 56 of the county’s 1,488 cases.
Wisconsin added 1,271 cases of COVID-19 since Sunday, continuing the third of three daily declines. On Sunday, 1,665 cases were recorded, falling below 2,000 a day for the first time since that mark was surpassed both last Friday and Saturday. The positive return rate reported today was 18.7%, raising the 7-day running average to 16.4%. 2 more persons died of COVID-19 since Sunday, raising the state death toll to 1,244. 39 more persons entered hospitals for treatment of their symptoms. Of the 407 now hospitalized with COVID-19, 111 are in the ICU. 133 patients are institutionalized but awaiting their test results, and 367 persons require ventilators to sustain life.
