SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – A facility-wide investigation underway at the Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution has uncovered 75 confirmed cases of COVID-19 there, and was the lion’s share of 90 new cases recorded in Sheboygan County since Thursday. The KMCI cases are not being tabulated into the county’s “active” case count. Instead, they are accounted for in the Department of Corrections active and recovered case files. Nonetheless, they do help to raise the county’s running total cases since the coronavirus pandemic began in March to 1,438.
Outside of KMCI, 143 cases are active as of 2 PM Friday, six more than at the same time on Thursday. Two more county residents had to be admitted to hospitals for treatment, raising the patient population to 10. 84 more persons recovered, and the death toll remains 14.
Depending on how you compute it, the county’s positive test return rate is either 12.4% including KMCI, or 2.3% without.
Wisconsin set a new record pace of daily confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 on Friday. After surpassing 2 thousand for the first time on Thursday, a new daily high of 2,533 were added, raising the running total to 97,279. The positive test return rate went up to 19.4%, and the running 7-day average is now 15.3%. Experts would like that rate closer to 5%. Seven more persons died since Thursday, raising the death toll to 1,238 and 47 more were hospitalized. Those patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19 now number 347, and 103 are in the ICU. 148 other patients are waiting for their test results, and 355 are supported by ventilators.
Based upon the current status of metrics and their trends, the Sheboygan County Safe Restart will remain in Phase-2, as it has been since June 5th.
And also considering all available data, the Sheboygan County School Risk Status remains at the same “High” status as it was last Friday. The weekly update of school risk considers local and state trends of epidemiology, local hospital capabilities and the ability of the County Department of Health Services to conduct interviews with every new confirmed case within 24-hours of test results, and that positive contact interviews can be done within 48 hours.
