MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) – Alec Mills threw the second no-hitter of the season in just his 15th big league start as the Chicago Cubs shutout the Milwaukee Brewers 12-0 at Miller Park on Sunday.
Mills struck out five and walked three. Jace Peterson grounded out to Javier Baez, who shouted in joy, for the final out. Mills says his curveball felt the best, often using it to set up batters for a first pitch strike. David Bote and Victor Caratini each logged three RBI in the win for Chicago, which improves to 28-20.
Adrian Houser gave up seven runs, only two earned, over four innings to take the loss for Milwaukee, which drops to 20-24.
The Brewers will look to bounce back when they host the Cardinals at Miller Park Monday afternoon for a doubleheader. Milwaukee has lost two in a row and sits in third in the NL Central, six games behind the Cubs for first. The Brewers are two games behind the Cards for second.
Josh Lindblom will take the mound for Milwaukee in game one while Corbin Burnes will get the ball for the second game.
Pregame coverage on WHBL for game one begins at 3:35.
