SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – A Sheboygan woman was appointed by Governor Evers to the People’s Maps Commission, a nonpartisan redistricting commission charged with drawing maps based on 2020 U.S. Census data. The Commission was created by executive order of the Governor in January after his nonpartisan redistricting proposal was removed from the biennial budget by Republicans during the Joint Finance Committee process.
Melissa Prentice of Sheboygan is a librarian and public services manager at Mead Public Library and will represent the 6th Congressional District during a virtual hearing to be held this coming March. The seven other districts will hold their own hearings, and the final maps produced by the Commission will be forwarded to the Legislature for consideration when they conduct the final redistricting.
Prentice is a member of the League of Women Voters and was the library representative for the City of Sheboygan’s initiative on diversity and inclusion.
