(WHBL) – Recent federal orders from the Centers for Disease Control were issued to protect renters from eviction from residential properties in Wisconsin and across the nation. The new CDC order became effective on Friday and will run through the end of the year, but you need to know that renters aren’t automatically entitled to protection.
For that protection to take effect, you have to fill out and sign a declaration form provided by the CDC and submit that to either the landlord, the owner of the residential property where you live, or to another person who has a right to request eviction or removal. The federal order doesn’t include foreclosures on home mortgages, and each adult listed on the lease, rental agreement or housing contract should provide a separate declaration.
Besides supplying declarations pertaining to income, medical expenses and loss of income or work hours among others, renters must have made best efforts to obtain government assistance and understand that they still have to make all payments and satisfy any agreements made with the landlord. Plus, the order doesn’t prevent charging or collecting late fees, penalties or interest.
