(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) September 4, 2020 – As one of the most experienced drivers in the pit area tasked with fending off a host of hungry young racers on a weekly basis, the will to succeed still burns bright for 28-year Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car competitor Tim Haddy of Waupun.
With three points nights remaining in the 2020 PDTR 360 Sprint Car season, Haddy stands ninth in the point standings on the strength of three top-10 A-main showings and two top-five main event finishes, including a season-best runner-up finish on July 18.
To date, Haddy has posted a total of 18 Midwest Sprint Car Association A-main victories and 102 total race wins to stand fifth on the MSA all-time win list. In addition, Haddy has collected six career PDTR 360 Sprint Car A-main victories since the division became a weekly fixture at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. in 2005.
“My goal coming into the 2020 season was to try and win the MSA championship,” Haddy said. “We have come close so many times. I wanted to finish more consistent than I did the previous year as well, as 2019 was a struggle toward the end.”
The Mayville native and current Waupun resident was born into a family that has been synonymous with racing for over 60 years, so it was no surprise when Haddy jumped at the opportunity to get behind the wheel as a teenager.
“My dad, Glenn, has built and owned race cars for the past 60-plus years,” Haddy said. “I was going to the races from the time I was born. I helped as much as I could growing up and when I was old enough, I started driving the cars we put together.
“I started racing in 1993 and ran three years in the Winged Super Modified division at Plymouth and then went to 360 Sprint Cars when the division started at Beaver Dam Raceway in 1996,” he said.
Haddy’s lengthy 28-year racing career has been filled with its fair share of successes, but there are a few accomplishments that stick out in his mind.
“The highlight of my career was winning the 2014 Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car 360 Sprint Car championship at the Manitowoc Expo Speedway,” Haddy said. “I was also a two-time Pat Rand Memorial Race winner.”
Haddy says the camaraderie with friends, family and his fellow racers has kept him coming back to the track year after year.
“I enjoy spending time with my family working on the car and at the races,” Haddy said. “We have made so many good friends though racing and being able to hang out with them every week at the track is something that will last even after racing.”
Looking to the future, Haddy says he has no plans to hang up his racing helmet any time soon.
“I’m going to continue racing with the MSA as much as possible,” Haddy said. “My kids are getting to the age that they want to drive as well, so we will see.”
Haddy’s pit crew consists of Glenn Haddy, Jerry Lemler, Tom Theobald and T.J. Haddy, along with his wife Sarah and daughters Jordyn, Becca and Kaitlyn.
Sponsors for the Haddy Racing Team include Buske Trucking of Theresa, Cole Oil & Propane of Lomira, Dan’s Village Bowl of Brownsville, Hoff’s Quality Meats & Sausage of Brownsville, Shooter of Brownsville, Sherwin Williams of Mequon, Buege High Performance and RC Custom Design.
