MADISON, WI (WSAU) — There’s another legal challenge by a 3rd-party Presidental candidate for ballot access in the Badger state.
Representatives from the Green Party are suing the state Elections Commission to allow Presidental Candidate Howie Hawkins to have a spot on the ballot. Hawkins, co-founder of the Green Party in 1984, is running alongside Milwaukee native and labor organizer Angela Walker.
Election Commissioners deadlocked on the Green Party’s application last month, saying there were discrepancies with the candidates’ address.
In 2016 the Green Party candidate Jill Stein received some 30,000 votes.
Rapper Kanye West is also suing the state election commission, who said his petitions were turned in after the deadline to do so. West’s representatives say they were on time by a few seconds, the Commissioners originally ruled that he had missed the deadline by a few seconds.
There will be at least one third-party candidate on November’s ballot. in late August Libitarian Jo Jorgensen and her running mate, Jeremy Cohen gained access through the elections commission. Jorgensen is a professor at Clemson University, Cohen a popular internet blogger and podcaster.
