MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Officials in Dane County have announced that a Sheriff’s deputy has died after contracting COVID-19 while on the job.
Deputy Richard “Rick” Treadwell died Saturday at the age of 61. Officials with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office say evidence shows he picked up the disease while working. Therefore, his death will be considered in the line of duty.
Treadwell is survived by his wife and three children. His body was given a law enforcement escort from the hospital to a local funeral home. That’s where members of the Sheriff’s Department will stand watch round-the-clock until his burial.
Funeral arrangements are pending. Officials believe this is the first line of duty COVID-19 death in the state.
