MADISON, WI (WHBL) – If you have a drivers license that expires soon, the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles is cutting you a break while the COVID-19 public health emergency runs its course. A 60-day extension has been enacted on expiring driver licenses and CDL’s and late fees will be waived. The records law enforcement sees during a stop will automatically reflect that extension. Those hoping to take their driver skills test will have to wait until the all-clear is given.
Meanwhile all facilities will be closed this Friday for cleanup and modifications that will enable social-distancing when they reopen on Monday. However, Secretary-designee Craig Thompson noted that “All DMV services related to vehicles can be done online. We encourage our customers to visit wisconsindmv.gov for this information and avoid an unnecessary trip to a service center.”
