One group may shiver and shudder outdoors at midnight tonight, while another sort might embrace the jolt of a 37-degree plunge tomorrow as “just right”, but the weather will be a force to be reckoned with either way this New Year’s holiday in Sheboygan.

The County was dusted with another inch or so of snow for the second consecutive day, and it appears a repeat is in order for tomorrow afternoon, ending by evening. Cold air settling in tonight will freeze any wet or slushy roads, and temperatures will head for the single digits by midnight, with winds creating wind chill values approaching ten below. For Thursday, as light as it may be, slippery spots can still result from a dusting of snow, especially on untreated roads.

Polar Bear participants in the 1 PM swim into Lake Michigan at DeLand Park can expect an air temperature of around 13 degrees with a wind chill of 2 below zero, conditions that have been called “just right” by previous participants. The water temperature offshore of Sheboygan was most recently measured at 37 degrees, and the shoreline is likely to be brittle and frozen, and so footwear is a must – as is a crew with a warm towel awaiting when you come back out to finish your New Year Celebration – Sheboygan Style.
