Maxine Maurer was born to the late Alvin and Vera Mueller in Sheboygan on May 25,1929. She graduated from Sheboygan Central High School in 1947 and married John “Jack” Maurer on September 10, 1949. Her life was filled with friends, family, and caring, with a particular soft spot for children.
Maxine was an active lady her whole life. She never passed a rummage sale without stopping because she lived to get a bargain. She never passed up a conversation with friends and family because she loved to chat. She didn’t say no to a five o’clock cocktail because she liked her Kessler’s and seltzer. She’d decorate for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving because she loved Christmas and all her special things. Even at 90 years old, she was golfing (maybe not as well as she once did), driving (definitely not as well as she once did) and buying her lottery tickets every Saturday after church (just like she always did). She never passed up an invite to a casino and loved hosting pool parties with friends and family. In retirement, her love of people led to volunteering at St. Nicholas Hospital and at the voting polls.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Jack and her daughter Janine, as well as brothers Don and Mick, and sisters in law Ginny, Mazie, and Sally Mueller. She is survived by her sons Dan (Susie), Don (Beth), Dennis (Lois) and son-in-law Tim Greger, as well as her brothers Jerry, Roy (Barb), and Ron (Kathy) Mueller. She leaves 11 grandchildren; Darcie, Kimberly, Erica, Alyssa, Nicholas, Jacob, Allison, Samuel, Jamie, Christopher, and Andrea as well as 13 great-grandchildren; Jack, Keaton, Lennox, Eli, Weston, Olin, Lyle, Addy, Elli, Thomas, James, Elizabeth, and Maverick.
Family and friends may gather at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan on Wednesday August 12, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. Fr. Paul Fliss will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Garden Terrace Mausoleum in Lutheran Cemetery.
