The Wisconsin DNR has upped its air quality advisory level to a Statewide Air Quality Alert as Canadian and Minnesota wildfires have smothered much of the country in a stifling blanket of smoke. Early morning levels that were already unhealthy for all groups of people have remained high or even increased in some cases, and all persons regardless of age or health are advised to avoid all outdoor physical activity until the alert expires at noon Friday.

People with asthma should keep emergency inhalers at hand, and those with heart disease should report any palpitations, shortness of breath or fatigue to their health care advisor, while all groups should avoid the outdoors until conditions improve. The DNR warns that there’s no guarantee that smoke clears by noon on Friday, and the advisory could extend into the weekend.
