Mayor Ryan Sorenson says that Sheboygan saw an 8.2% increase in tourism over the past year. That figure far outpaces the state’s growth which, according to Travel Wisconsin, increased 4.4%.
No other county in Wisconsin outpaced Sheboygan; close contenders included 7.2% growth for Winnebago and Bayfield Counties, while four others (Washburn, Vernon Jackson and Dunn) saw losses. Surrounding counties came in at 5.2% for Washington, 5.0% for Ozaukee, 1.8% for Fond du Lac, 4.6% for Calumet and 5.9% for Manitowoc.
Mayor Sorenson says the numbers for Sheboygan equate to more than a half million dollars in economic impact for the county, and this year those numbers could go up even higher as American Cruise Lines makes its first official port of call in Sheboygan on Thursday this week.
