A Sheboygan Falls mother released from custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement celebrated outside the Milwaukee Immigration office Monday.
Elvira Benitez-Suarez is an undocumented woman who was taken into custody by ICE agents earlier this year during a routine check-in. Benitez-Suarez was released last Tuesday after posting a 15-hundred-dollar bond, and immigration attorney Marc Christopher says the detention took “…a very big toll on her physically.” He adds she has been in the U.S. for 35 years with no criminal record, four children, and a husband.
Benitez-Suarez was in the process of getting her green card when she was taken into custody, a process that now continues.
