A fire on Sunday afternoon claimed the life of a family dog, but another pet survived.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office responded at 2:19PM, arriving to find a home on Main Street on the southern limits of the Village of St. Cloud with smoke coming from the roof. The owners, who weren’t home when a passerby noticed the fire, arrived shortly after firefighters to confirm there were no people inside, but there were two family dogs.
Fire crews from Mt. Calvery, Calumet, the City of Fond du Lac, New Holstein, Kiel, St. Anna, Eden, Glenbeulah, Greenbush and Elkhart Lake entered and quickly extinguished a fire located in the kitchen and put out other hot spots. It’s suspected that the fire started near the stove, but the exact cause remains under investigation.
One of the dogs survived while another perished. No civilians or first responders were injured. The house sustained significant smoke and water damage.
