One of Sheboygan’s most popular gathering places during warm weather is City Green, a parcel of land on the northwest corner of 7th and New York Avenue. The venue hosts the popular Levitt Amp Series concerts which begin this year on Thursday, June 25th, as well as hosting spillover events from the John Michael Kohler Arts Center’s Summer Festival of the Arts, and serving as celebration headquarters during the powerboat racing weekends. But for those requiring handicap access, a problem has developed.
The ADA-compliant concrete access pad and approach on the southwest corner of the property have deteriorated, settled unevenly, and no longer provide ADA access.
To address the issue, the Department of Public Works, which serves as caretaker of City Green, has proposed modifying the concrete pad and approach, bringing access to the Green and the portable restroom facilities up to standards. A bid proposal was opened by the Public Works Committee and, upon review, a contract proposal for $7,657 from Klunck Masonry, LLC was recommended for full Council approval.
Funds to cover the project already reside in the 2026 budget and, if approved during the June 1st Common Council meeting, the contract will be signed and a schedule and coordination of the construction will move forward.
