Attention will be given to various areas on Wisconsin highways this week, as the Wisconsin State Patrol has planned aerial enforcement in five counties this week. The WSP emphasized that their primary mission is public safety, and aerial enforcement is one way to enhance those efforts.
In a Monday announcement, the State Patrol said that from the air, it’s much easier to spot drivers who are speeding or driving aggressively. When a pilot observes a violation, they radio a ground-based unit that can initiate the traffic stop.
Aerial enforcement was scheduled for Monday on I-43 in Walworth County and I-41 in Outagamie County. Additional flights are scheduled for:
I-94 in Kenosha County on Tuesday, May 19.
Wisconsin Highway 57 in Door County and US Highway 51 in Oneida County, both on Friday, May 22.
I-41 in Outagamie County on Sunday, May 24.
The State Patrol added that many aerial enforcement missions are announced publicly in advance in order to reinforce the goal of improving safety through voluntary compliance with traffic laws, and not to simply stop or cite drivers.
