If this year has taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected. Some schools are holding in-person classes and some online, which is making parents add “homeschool teacher” to their list of careers. To help out a little bit, the Farm Journal Foundation just released some content to help teach kids about agriculture in the United States. This should hopefully lighten the load of planning curriculum for parents and teachers.
The content in the learning modules is targeted at middle and high school age students. The best part is that it’s FREE! The modules give students a look into food production in the country with videos from various farmers and ranchers from all over the United States. The farmers in these videos explain how to be sustainable and preserve natural resources, along with how they take care of their animals. They also touch on different ways things have progressed and changed from generation to generation. Overall, there’s a lot of great content.
Here’s what’s available:
- Overview of the U.S. Ag System: Four modules (about four chapters/module)
- Business and Culture of U.S. Ag: Four short segments
- Virtual Tours: 3D visit to a swine farm and a corn field (VR goggles available by request)
For those who haven’t ever taught before and need some help, don’t worry! The lessons also come with a teacher overview video, a guide on how to use the content, and discussion questions to use to make sure students understand what’s being taught. You can get everything you need for your classroom here. Happy learning!
