It’s severe weather awareness week – an observance that gives state and local officials along with the public a chance to test their readiness to respond to a tornado or other weather-related emergency. But this year, the weather itself has already provided that test.
Staff at the National Weather Service in Milwaukee has been busy all week staffing their own emergency network, sending crews out to survey wind and flood damage, and coordinating with public safety and media organizations to manage the recent string of storms. With that in mind, the National Weather Service called off the test tornado drills that would have set off sirens twice today.
There are some related advisories that are no test, but the real thing. A Flood Warning is in effect for the Sheboygan River which is again in the “Action” stage at just under 7-feet, a Flood Watch covers the rest of the area until 7 AM, and a Dense Fog Advisory will last until 10 this morning.
