Authorities had to shut down I-43 northbound from the Highway 42 ramp to Cleveland due to a crash on Sunday afternoon.
911 calls began coming in at 4:12 PM advising of a semi versus pedestrian crash on Interstate 43 northbound, south of Garton Road. Wisconsin 511 reported the closure, and the traffic camera at Highway 42 was showing a long lineup being directed toward the exit ramp while southbound traffic was passing normally.
The initial investigation by the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office indicated that the operator of a Ford Explorer, identified as a 48-year-old Sheboygan man, had pulled over to the side of the interstate and exited his vehicle. It appears that he was then struck by the passing northbound semi. He was declared deceased at the scene despite life saving measures.
No other details will be released at this time pending notification of the families.
