Dr. D. Scott Sellinger, 78, of Sheboygan, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Aurora Medical Center Sheboygan County. He was born June 30, 1947, in Sheboygan to the late David and Charlotte (Thieman) Sellinger. Scott graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1965.
Following graduation, he went on to the University of Colorado, Boulder, and then
graduated from UW Madison with his Doctorate of Medicine.
On December 27, 1971, he was united in marriage to Teresa Lee “Dutchie” Thornton. Together they raised three children: Jennifer Sellinger-Gotzmer of Sheboygan, Steven (Elise) Sellinger of Wauwatosa, and Zachary Sellinger of Northbrook, IL. Teresa preceded him in death on August 16, 2025.
Scott is further survived by his eight grandchildren: Gwyneth (Evan Thuemmler)
Gotzmer of Vista, CA, Greyson and Griffin Gotzmer of Sheboygan, Audrey and Connor Sellinger of Wauwatosa, and Brianna, Hudson, and Dylan Sellinger of Northbrook, IL, his siblings: Robert (Andrea) Sellinger of Elkhart Lake, WI, Sally (Steve) Nead of Sheboygan, WI, and Michael (Mary) Sellinger of Elkhart Lake, WI. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other beloved relatives, and dear friends.
Scott was an orthopedic surgeon at St Nicholas and Memorial Hospitals until his
retirement in 2017. He absolutely loved his job and always said it really wasn’t a “job,” but rather “fun.” He loved his staff and adored his patients. While Scott was well known for his professional acumen and often times gruff exterior, he was, in fact, a gentle giant. He doted on his beloved wife, Terry, and took beautiful care of her, especially in her last years of life.
He was a devoted father to his three children, sharing a lifetime of laughs, love, generosity, and discipline when warranted. He was an extraordinary grandfather, always teasing his grandchildren and keeping them on their toes. Scott’s sense of humor was second to none, delivering dry one-liners quietly and with a twinkle of the eye.
His happy places were Elkhart Lake and Hilton Head. He relished “put-put” boat rides on the lake and golfing in Hilton Head. He also enjoyed his time at the University of Colorado. It was during his time in Boulder that Scott once infamously drove a motorcycle up the stairs of his Chi Psi Fraternity. Nonetheless, he was later the President of that very fraternity.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Teresa.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 20, at the Sheboygan Yacht Club from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The City of Sheboygan Fire Department (please note “Scott Sellinger Memorial” on the memo line) or Tunnel To Towers.
