The latest in a set of rollercoaster weather systems is now impacting the Sheboygan County area as the “quiet before the storm”. Blustery winds are dry for now, but overnight a push of warm air from the south will set up a freezing rain situation that could coat exposed surfaces in something between one and two-tenths of an inch of ice. That’s most likely to occur along the Kettle Moraine and westward, while areas near Lake Michigan could escape with only a raw rain. Still, the Thursday morning commute should be considered vulnerable to adverse conditions throughout the area.
A reversal in weather should be quick as the warm air succeeds in arriving, but possibly generating thunderstorms as a result. Besides the threat of severe weather impacts from large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado, the potential of 2” or more of rain in the next several days could pose its own hazards of ponding water and swelling rivers and streams.
