Dry, breezy conditions weren’t a good combination in our area on Monday as firefighting crews were kept busy with outbreaks of brush fires in Sheboygan County.
One grass fire was reported on Birch Hill Lane near Weeden Creek Road early Monday afternoon, and cellphone alerts went out advising evacuation to those within a half mile of the area.
A grass fire on Highway 32 near Ourtown Road south of Sheboygan Falls was reported around 1 PM, with another brush fire on Cranberry Road near Beechwood at the same time.
Then, a large, uncontrolled burn required response near Highways 28 and 144 in the Town of Scott around 8 PM.
Sheboygan County along with the entire southwest half of Wisconsin is experiencing High Fire Danger according to the Wisconsin DNR’s Wisburn webpage, and in our area, fire departments posted online requests that residents refrain from burning until conditions improve. It is hoped that arrival of wetter, cooler weather will help reduce that danger over the coming days.
