The Ozaukee County District Attorney has filed charges against a former fellow Ozaukee County officer. Ex-Coroner Timothy Deppisch has been charged with two counts of Misconduct in Public Office. Both are Class “I” (eye) Felonies in Wisconsin which, if found guilty, each carry penalties of up to 3-1/2 years imprisonment, fines up to $10,000, or both.
The first count alleges that in December of 2022, Deppisch intentionally falsified entries in an official report or record related to his duties as coroner. Count 2 alleges a similar offense occurring in September of that year, also involving the intentional falsification of official records. Both stem from apparent reimbursement requests for travel to out-of-county funeral homes whose representatives reported that Deppisch had not been present.
The discrepancies came to light when the office was transitioned from that of an elected coroner to an appointed medical examiner in January of 2023 with current Examiner Ian Luecke then discovering the conflicting information, initiating the investigation, which remains active.
