A winter storm that’s already laid down accumulations of sleet, snow and freezing rain, is saving the worst for the last as a Blizzard Warning has now been issued for Sheboygan and surrounding counties. The warning is in effect until 4 PM Monday.
The National Weather Service expects a brief evening break in precipitation to be followed by heavy snow at rates of up to one inch per hour at times, moving in from west to east. At the same time, northerly winds of 40-45 MPH will combine to produce blizzard conditions with visibilities of less than 1/4 of a mile. Snow accumulations of 5-10 inches are expected.
Travel could be very difficult, and widespread blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds could also bring down tree branches which, in turn, could lead to power interruptions.
Governor Evers declared a State of Emergency earlier this weekend, and the Wisconsin State emergency Operations Center is supporting the response to the storm. The SEOC was elevated to “Level 3” on Sunday. The agency is coordinating resources and support with several state agencies including the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs, the DOT, the DNR, and the Department of Health Services.
