Highway 57 near Fredonia had to be shut down for a time early Wednesday afternoon to accommodate a Flight-for-Life helicopter ambulance after a two-vehicle accident.
Based upon witnesses and the initial investigation, it appears that a northbound van struck a Chrysler Voyager that was parked partially in the traffic lane on the east shoulder of northbound Highway 57 about 2 miles south of Random Lake, with the driver standing outside of the vehicle when the collision occurred. The driver was impacted by his vehicle suffering life-threatening injuries. He was identified as a 77-year-old Chicago man, who was flighted to Froedtert Hospital for treatment.
The van driver is 46-year-old Joshua Clark of Oconto Falls. He and a passenger, 30-year-old Preston Ninham of Green Bay, were transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Flight for Life required a full shutdown of Highway 57 near the crash that occurred just before 1 PM, and southbound lanes were reopened by 1:48 PM. Northbound lanes remained closed for crash reconstruction and traffic was routed onto Ozaukee County Highway D.
