MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin reported its second-highest daily total of new coronavirus cases on Thursday.
The state Department of Health Services said there were 2,392 new confirmed infections. The seven-day average of new cases rose to 1,939.
There were six new deaths reported, pushing the total to 1,265 since the pandemic began.
Gov. Tony Evers said the rise in cases was most pronounced among people ages 18-24. Preliminary data shows 3,870 people in that age range came down with the virus during the week of Sept. 6, and 3,000 during the week of Sept. 13. No other age group had more than 1,500 new cases during either of those time periods.
Total testing and hospitalization numbers for the day were not available as of early afternoon.
On Tuesday, Evers extended the state’s face mask mandate to Nov. 21.
