A 5-1/2 million dollar renovation to HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital’s Women and Infants Center has begun. The facility announced on Monday that the construction, which will include modernized labor and delivery rooms, a tub room for use during labor, a refreshed nursery and an improved nurse station, began on January 5.
The three-phase project is expected to finish in July, enabling the center to remain fully operational during the transition. As a result, the hospital said that throughout construction, “patients can expect the same quality and compassionate care they have come to know and trust at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital.”

$1.7 million were donated to the HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital Foundation from 2023 to 2024 and of that, $1.1 million of the donations will be supplemented with a $4.4 million strategic capital investment by HSHS to fund the renovation. The remaining dollars raised by the community were used to purchase new mammography technology and launch perinatal mental health services at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital.
