An apparent wood stove explosion destroyed the shed housing it and left the home it was heating in the cold on Wednesday.
Multiple reports of a loud explosion were called into the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday afternoon, drawing responders to a residence on Center Road in the Town of Waupun, where they found a 12 x 30 foot shed fully engulfed in flames, threatening a nearby barn and drawing additional responders.
The fire was ultimately extinguished, but the wood stove, the shed and its contents were a total loss. And although the home nearby suffered only exterior damage, the wood stove was the sole source of heat and the American Red Cross was called to help the family that was displaced. No injuries were reported.
