The much-anticipated incursion of arctic air began this Thursday with
a late-morning increase in winds, the precursor to the conditions that
prompted the issuance of an Extreme Cold Warning from midnight tonight
until 1 PM tomorrow. And as severe (but not extreme) cold is
expected to linger after then, a Cold Weather Advisory runs from 1 PM
Friday through Noon Saturday.

NWS Graphic
Details of the Extreme Cold Warning center on wind chills between -35
and -41 degrees, given actual temperatures as cold as 15 below,
accompanied by winds of 20, gusting over 30 MPH. Conditions ease
Friday afternoon only to the level of a brief daytime high near -5º
with wind chills of -25º to -29º, and low temps dropping back to near
20 below and maintaining that chill until midday Saturday.

NWS Graphic
The National Weather Service advised that the cold outbreak may stay
intense enough to change the Cold Weather Advisory to another Extreme
Cold Warning, and also that additional advisories are likely to be
issued as the cold spell lasts into next week.
