An intense incursion of arctic air is prompting the National Weather Service to send out early warnings in order to prepare for conditions for which many have no previous experience. Two rounds of snow, followed by extreme cold are forecast for the next five days or so.

NWS Graphic
For Sheboygan County, concern centers upon cold, and not the snow. As for the latter, Wisconsin counties south of a line from Mequon to Lone Rock are under a Winter Weather Advisory from 9 this evening until 6 AM Wednesday for possible snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches, with peak rates between 10 PM Tuesday and 5 AM Wednesday.

NWS Graphic
A second round between 5 and 9 PM Wednesday could add another trace of an inch at best, but still contribute to complications for the evening commute. Sheboygan County could experience an inch or two of snow, however conditions haven’t warranted any advisories for precipitation. But the cold is another story altogether.

NWS Graphic
An extreme cold watch has been issued for nearly all of Wisconsin – including Sheboygan County – from late Thursday night through Saturday morning. Dangerously cold wind chill readings as low as 40 degrees below zero are possible within the general area, which can inflict frostbite to unprotected skin within as little as 10 minutes. The most extreme effects in Sheboygan County are expected between 3 and 9 AM Friday when gusty winds combine with anticipated temperatures near 10 below zero to produce wind chills of between 32 and 33 degrees below zero.
