Sheboygan’s Common Council gave its approval to an agreement to bring Amazon to Sheboygan’s SouthPointe Enterprise Campus. The 200,000 square-foot facility will be a last-mile delivery station located at the intersection of Stahl Road and Taylor Drive, and will serve as a key regional hub for the final stage of Amazon’s delivery network. Last-mile stations are the final step in delivering orders to homes and businesses.
Amazon’s Manager of Economic Development and Head of Central US Expansion is Sheboygan Native Jason Vangalis, who told the Common Council on Monday night that the project is expected to generate between 150 and 200 direct jobs, along with perhaps 450 additional, indirect jobs.
Alderperson Perella asked Vangalis how the company planned to fill those jobs, considering the already-low unemployment rate here in Sheboygan. Vangalis responded that the company has “really competitive” benefits, has a staffing team that partners with local agencies and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, and if shortages persist the company then considers improving the starting wage and adding a sign-on bonus. In the end, Perella voted against the proposal, as did alders Close and Boorse. The motion passed 7-3.
Construction of the facility is expected to start this summer, with operations to commence in the summer of 2027.
