A second consecutive night of potentially hazardous holiday weather will be dealt with tonight according to the National Weather Service. And while most of the region will be at risk, impacts are far more certain and potentially disruptive to our north.
Calumet, Manitowoc and Winnebago Counties will be under a Winter Weather Advisory from 9 this evening until 6 Friday morning. Freezing rain is expected to coat most everything in a light glaze, creating very slippery sidewalks, roads and bridges.
Closer to home, Sheboygan and the remaining adjacent counties are better placed to be spared the worst effects, and no advisories have been issued. There is a low potential for a brief period of freezing drizzle this evening, with the greatest potential occurring well to our west. The potential for freezing drizzle will be at its greatest between 9 and midnight tonight, by which time rising temperatures should provide all rain and quick melting. Before then, however, it will still be possible to experience a light glaze.
Rain then remains likely through about noon on Friday, with temperatures remaining in the mid 30s under mostly cloudy skies.
Those planning return trips this weekend will find clear travel during daylight hours Saturday, but there’s a risk of rain after sunset, becoming mixed with light snow overnight into Monday. That will be accompanied by sharply falling temperatures and below zero wind chills by sunup.
