Sheboygan County Treasurer Laura Henning-Lorenz is asking Sheboygan County taxpayers to consider mailing their payments to their municipalities earlier than usual this year. She says that recent changes to US Postal Service postmarking procedures have impacted the timeliness of property tax payments.
With respect to deadlines, a property tax payment is considered timely if it is correctly addressed, postmarked by the due date, and received on time, according to Wisconsin state law.
Tax bills sent by the County now have a new, more streamlined and easy-to-understand look that has generated positive feedback to the Treasurer’s office.
To avoid mailing issues, taxpayers should refer to their tax bill for the correct first-installment mailing address for their municipality, something that she said many municipalities have already incorporated into their new mailings.
Additional payment options are available through the County Treasurer’s website.
