A passing arctic cold front will cause weather to display a variety of outcomes today, starting with wet weather and ending with a cold blast.
A few frosty roadways were noted overnight resulting from cold road surfaces and near-freezing temperatures, and very light rain showers were approaching from the southwest early this morning. Those light showers should be with us much of the day, especially between 10 AM and 3 PM. With temperatures rising to near 40 degrees that shouldn’t cause travel trouble, but what comes next could easily be a problem.

NWS Graphic
As the cold front passes – for us, after 6 or 7 PM – a period of brief but intense snowfall accompanied by winds gusting to 35 MPH can be expected. Such snow squalls can bring sudden white-out conditions, generating Snow Squall Warnings, but any snow accumulation would be minimal.

After that, rapidly falling temperatures will turn any standing water or snow into ice, and so plan on using extra caution when driving tonight.
