SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) – The Sheboygan County Division of Public Health reports that as of Saturday a total of 8 cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in Sheboygan County. 4 of those have recovered and are no longer ill. The 4 active cases are in home isolation and are being closely monitored by Public Health.
As in the 7th case reported, this latest incidence of COVID-19 could not be attributed to contact with another known case, and so represents the 2nd reported case of “community spread” in Sheboygan County.
Officials with the DPH stress the need for the public to heed the federal and state directives to stay home unless absolutely necessary, to not gather in groups of more than 10 persons and even then, maintain a distance of 6 feet apart. Hands should be washed thoroughly and often, and direct contact with others should be avoided. They said that doing so is the only way to slow the spread of the virus. So called “flattening the curve” spreads out the cases over time, enabling the healthcare system to tend to the most severe cases of COVID-19 without the system becoming overwhelmed.
Attention in the daily report was also spent on the risk of fraud, as scammers have been offering testing or treatment through telemarketing calls, social media and even door-to-door. They stress that testing orders can only come directly from your healthcare provider, and personal or financial information should never be provided to anyone that you do not know.
In order to help fight fraud, the National Center for Disaster Fraud has established a hotline at 866-720-5721. Reports of fraud can also be emailed to disaster@leo.gov
