Dec 2 (Reuters) – Walmart said on Tuesday it had opened a second milk processing facility in the United States at an investment of $350 million, as the U.S. retailer seeks to strengthen its supply chain and meet demand for affordable dairy products.
The company said the 300,000-square-foot facility at Valdosta, Georgia will create more than 400 jobs.
The facility will source milk from local dairy farmers and supply more than 650 Walmart and Sam’s Club stores across the Southeast region, the retail bellwether said in a statement.
Walmart has been investing in processing products such as beef and milk as consumers look for more affordable private label pantry staples. The company’s third milk processing facility in Texas is also due to open in 2026, Walmart had announced last year.
The Valdosta facility will process milk for Walmart’s Great Value and Sam’s Club Member’s Mark private label brands.
Walmart currently has a milk processing plant at Fort Wayne, Indiana, and case-ready beef facilities in Georgia and Kansas.
