An excavation crew working near Cascade this Friday afternoon struck a natural gas line, causing an explosion according to the Sheboygan County Emergency Communications Center.
The message, posted around 2 PM on the Center’s facebook page, advised the public to avoid the intersection of Trio Lane and County Highway “F” just west of the village of Cascade. An 3-mile evacuation of the area was initially put in place, but eventually limited to an approximate 1/2 mile radius from that intersection.
According to the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, one person was injured in the incident, and within an hour the pipeline had been shut off and the gas was dissipating. It was expected that the County “F” closure would take place once the scene was declared safe.
