A fire causes significant damage to a home on Sheboygan’s far northeast side on Thursday, even though crews made impressively quick work bringing the blaze under control.

Calls came in just before 11:30 AM with reports of the fire in the 1100 block ofPershing Avenue, sending a full-department response to the two-story, single family residence. The first engine company from Fire Station 4 was there within two minutes to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. The exterior fire was immediately suppressed, allowing crews to enter along with additional companies to supply backup. During the initial entry a family dog was rescued from the inside.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control within five minutes, and then spent about 90 minutes performing overhaul, checking for hot spots and assisting with salvage operations.

Five persons were displaced from the residence and are being assisted by the Red Cross. A total of 9 units responded, there were no injuries, and damage was estimated at $50,000. Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
