Fire destroyed a garage on Sheboygan’s south side late this Friday morning. Assistant Fire Chief Michael Lubbert reports that the Sheboygan County Emergency Center dispatched crews to the 1400 block of Greenfield Avenue shortly after 11 AM. The first engines arrived within two minutes to find a detached garage fully involved, with heavy flames visible. An aggressive attack began immediately to control the flames and protect surrounding buildings.
Efforts succeeded in containing the fire to the garage and minimizing damage to the surrounding structures, while additional personnel performed overhaul operations, secured utilities, and confirmed that there were no additional hot spots in the surrounding area.
Crews were able to entirely extinguish the blaze and leave the scene after about 90 minutes of work. There were no injuries, and damage is estimated at $80,000.

While the cause remains under investigation, the SFD advised residents to use caution when working in garages or outbuildings, to keep open flames under close supervision, and to avoid using portable cooking or heating devices in enclosed spaces.
