Sheboygan Mayor Ryan Sorenson will be in New York City for an international meeting this week. The mayor is among the members of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative which will announce a plan to transform the economy of the area that’s expected to become the fastest growing region in North America over the next decade.
The Economic Transformation Plan they release aims to promote the region as the Fresh Coast Economic Corridor, a step intended to strengthen and expand the economic base by attracting industries that will need access to the region’s vast freshwater resources, while the rest of the world will face freshwater resource scarcity. While economic growth is the ultimate goal, so is that of adopting practices that minimize waste and protect those resources.
Mayor Sorenson will join with mayors and officials from eighteen other cities, regions and indigenous nations from the US and Canada in Wednesday’s launch.
