The Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation is hosting a Startup World Cup pitch competition in Sheboygan on September 8th at the Weill Center. The SCEDC’s Justin Vanniewenhoven said that the goal is to have 150 attendees and 50 business submissions. Those are the minimum numbers needed in order to qualify for the finals in California. Ten businesses will be selected to pitch, with the local winner receiving a $2,000 prize and a chance to compete for a million-dollar investment in San Francisco. A People’s Choice winner will also receive $1,000. Carbliss is sponsoring the event.
Businesses at any stage, from an idea to already profitable, are encouraged to apply. Pitches are four minutes long, followed by a Q&A with judges. Ray York of the SCEDC is available to assist entrepreneurs in preparing for the competition and launching their businesses.

Applications will be reviewed in the first week of September, and pitching businesses will be notified the Friday before the event. Registration is required for both attendees and pitching businesses to qualify for the Startup World Cup.
