The progress of plans to address shortfalls within the City of Sheboygan’s public safety facilities will be addressed when the Licensing, Hearings, and Public Safety Committee meets this evening at City Hall. The presentation from Wendel/Five Bugles Design will outline plans for the design and construction of new fire and police facilities and the assessment of the current needs.
What’s already known is that current facilities don’t meed modern safety, accessibility and operational standards. The report will show significant deficiencies in space, lack of proper decontamination areas, inadequate dorms and other issues. The main push will be to rebuild Fire Stations 2 & 3 and expand the current Police facilities on North 23rd Street.
Five Bugles will propose a choice of either phased construction that offers lower initial costs, but higher overall costs due to several factors…or a non-phased option that costs more up-front, but shows potential savings through economy of scale and a shorter project duration.
The Committee will go into closed session after the presentation and then re-convene to state its preference on the plans. Tonight’s meeting is at 6 PM in the Common Council chambers.
