Lake Michigan has asserted its massive potential offshore of Sheboygan, and the danger posed by its waves caused the P1 Powerboat events scheduled for Saturday afternoon to be cancelled by event producers. The message sent to participants via text read: “Your safety is our priority. Stay tuned for further updates. Thank you for your understanding and patience.”
The first few rounds of races sometimes bore similarities to a bucking-bronco ride as wave heights and chop increased by the hour.
According to the race organizers, when asked if the race course might reopen for competition later in the day, SSR Safety and Rescue Services, LLC leader Shawn Steinert asserted that, “No, it’s supposed to get worse.”
A 1:09 PM release from the Sheboygan Police Department said that there will be two more Jet Ski races starting at 1:30 PM Saturday, and the events scheduled for King Park will continue as planned.
Offshore races are scheduled to resume tomorrow morning.
