Sheboygan Mayor Ryan Sorenson
With the third annual P1 Powerboat Race weekend now just a day away from launch, the excitement is spreading…especially with Mayor Ryan Sorenson who visited on Wednesday with The Point’s Ben Olsen to talk about the events that begin tomorrow.
The Mayor told Olsen that “Friday night at six o’clock down by City Green downtown, there’ll be music, food trucks, you can see the boats up close, meet the racers, buy their merch – it’s going to be really exciting.”
Sorenson said that people will have some new features to enjoy this time around. “This year, in addition to the big boats, we’re gonna have jet ski racing. So, jet skis, this is going to be the AquaX Racing Series sponsored by Monster Energy Drink, right here in Sheboygan. So, they’ll be doing their testing on Thursday and Friday, but the races for jet skis will be Saturday and Sunday.”
The mayor also said that, given the many closed roads and resulting reduced parking, shuttle service will be available. “We have an adjusted trolley route that folks can ride on for free. You can park your car at South High School or Three Sheeps, the trolley will pick you up, drop you off there…so we have free shuttles.”
And, the Mayor said, besides just having a great time, the public is key to a successful event. “Bring your friends and family. This is always a fun weekend. The race organizers – the racers, they just love Sheboygan, they love our hospitality, and that’s why they keep coming back. So the more love we show them, the more that they’ll keep coming back.”
