The 3rd Annual Sheboygan Midwest Challenge for powerboats will draw thousands to watch the races this weekend, but events beyond the races themselves will be drawing their own crowds beginning on Friday.
The Downtown Block Party begins at 6 PM Friday, but road closures ahead of the event will begin at 3. The closure area is bounded by Niagara and Center Avenues on the north and south, and from North 6th to North 8th Streets on the east and west. Within that area, race boats will line the streets while live music, food and refreshments will be provided at City Green until 10 PM.
Races get underway on Saturday, and so do road closures of Broughton Drive from Ontario to Pennsylvania Avenues, as well as Penn Avenue from 4th Street to the Lakefront. South Pier Drive will be closed for the event, as will South 7th Street between Clara and Ashland Avenues.
The latter stretch encompasses the best public viewing area of the races along with King Park, which will host Boats, Bites ‘n’ Brews, an event co-sponsored by the City of Sheboygan along with Three Sheeps Brewing. The event will offer live music, vendors, food trucks, a brat fry, and Three Sheeps beverages on Saturday from 11 ‘till 7, and on Sunday from 11 until 5 PM.
